"The Professional dedicates himself to mastering technique not because he believes technique is a substitute for inspiration, but because he wants to be in possession of the fullest possible arsenal of skills when inspiration strikes." -Steven Pressfield
Dancing with Fire
The accompanying long exposure photo reveals geometric beauty, while the video demonstrates how these patterns were made. The instruments, called fire poi, are Kevlar wicks soaked in lamp oil and attached to my hands with steel chains. The interaction of the circling fireballs and my moving body creates an intricate dance of geometric figures. Those complex movements are not innate, they were earned through thousands of hours of focused, self-directed practice over a span of ten years.
